This course provides an overview of Latin American societies, politics and public cultures from pre-Colombian times to the present. Lectures will cover a wide range of topics from political, social and economic transformations to religion, social hierarchies, collective identities and personal relations. A global continental approach will be combined with case studies on specific Latin American countries and regions.
