Program Descriptions
The minor in Latin American studies provides an opportunity for students to undertake a multidisciplinary study of the history, geography, economics, politics, and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean. It consists of a total of fifteen hours, three of which may count also toward the student´s major. Candidates for the minor are required to take Latin American Studies 210, Introduction to Latin American Studies. In addition, candidates take twelve hours of coursework on Latin America. No more than six of these twelve hours may be in a single discipline.

Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese either by completing Spanish courses through the 213 level or by undergoing an oral proficiency interview with a member of the faculty of the Department of Romance Languages.

310. Special Topics in Latin American Studies. (3h) Selected topics in Latin American Studies; topics vary from year to year.

398. Individual Study. (3h) Independent study and fieldwork in local and international Hispanic communities.
